A new Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa is set to be open this Friday. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports the original Hancher Auditorium opened in 1972. It was damaged beyond repair by a 2008 flood and the building's demolition started in 2013.

Jazz pianist Fred Hersch is a brilliant artist as well as a passionate advocate for AIDS services and education agencies. Hersch spent two-months in a AIDS-related coma in 2008, but emerged to continue his remarkable musical career while also speaking and performing in forums that raise money for and call attention to AIDS research.
