Attacca Quartet and Caroline Shaw
Presented in collaboration with the University of Iowa String Quartet Residency Program and Creative Matters, a program of the Office of the Vice President for Research
The members of the acclaimed Attacca Quartet—described by The New York Times as "exuberant, funky, and ... exactingly nuanced"—are passionate advocates of contemporary repertoire and new work—including that of composer and vocalist Caroline Shaw, who became the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013. The quartet and Shaw will perform music from their 2022 album Evergreen, which, like their previous record, Orange, garnered a Grammy.
The program includes Three Essays, Shaw's work grounded in the written word—especially the lilting prose style of the novelist and essayist Marilynne Robinson, herself a Pulitzer Prize winner and legendary professor emeritus of the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
