Ayodele Casel
Rooted
"Who can make the stage come to life like Casel?" asks The New York Times—and you would be hard pressed to come up with an answer. With Rooted, the tap dancer and choreographer traces the roots of her artform, building on a rich history while forging the future as well. The performance, featuring live music and some of today's best hoofers, will be presented with the audience seated on stage for an intimate, exhilarating experience.
Ayodele's list of recent accolades is impressive: featured on a 2021 US Postal stamp, a 2022 Drama Desk nominee for her choreography for the hit Broadway revival Funny Girl, a 2022 Bessie Award winner for her show Chasing Magic, and winner of a 2023 Doris Duke Award as well as being named a USA Artists Fellow. We'll sum up with the Times' assessment of Casel: "She's astonishing."
