Part of Hancher's 51st season

Grammy Award-winning violinist Midori made her professional debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1982—when she was 11 years old. In 2021, she was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honor for her lifetime artistic achievement. Rightly recognized as one of the most outstanding violinists of our time, she is also an activist and educator who is devoted to crafting connections between music and the human experience. The Washington Post says, "Midori is still the singular sound of familiar from her long affiliation with the virtuosic standards: big, focused, strongly projected, uncannily smooth and consistent bowing across a broadband spectrum of volume and color."

With the 39 piece Swiss chamber orchestra Festival Strings Lucerne, Midori will perform Robert Schumann's moving, mysterious, and rarely heard violin concerto as well as Beethoven's Romance in F Major. The orchestra will close the evening with Beethoven's ebullient and triumphant Symphony No. 7.

PROGRAM
Arthur HONEGGER: Pastorale d'été, H. 31
Richard DUBUGNON: Caprice No. 4, "Es muss sein!"
Robert SCHUMANN: Violin Concerto in D minor, WoO 23, with Midori
Ludwig van BEETHOVEN: Romance No. 2 in F Major, op. 50, with Midori
