Part of Hancher's Infinite Dream festival

With an eye on justice and joy, a poet speaks and sings words that reveal her loving, activist heart.

aja monet won the esteemed Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam title at 19—the youngest winner ever. Her work proudly takes its place in a long tradition of poets who have tuned their work to social causes. Her most recent record, the Grammy nominated when the poems do what they do, was co-produced by monet and Chief Adjuah (who himself will appear in a Club Hancher performance this season). The album is a stirring example of her revolutionary spirit and activist heart. She will be joined by a top-tier jazz quartet as she brings her words reflecting and reimagining reality to Infinite Dream.

“[m]onet’s poems cast unflinching eyes towards love, justice, accountability and the joy and healing of daughters and sons of the Black diaspora. At times, her words—gentle gut punches to the soul and psyche—had those in attendance whooping in agreement or silently weeping.”  NPR
