Part of Hancher's 52nd Season

Hancher supports one singular guitarist appearing at two indispensable Iowa City festivals.

Marc Ribot is going to have a busy day in Iowa City. First, he will perform his score for Yakov Protazanov’s pioneering sci-fi film Aelita: Queen of Mars as part of the ReFocus Film Festival. Then he will read from his book Unstrung: Rants & Stories of a Noise Guitarist as part of the Iowa City Book Festival. It’s a unique opportunity to experience Ribot’s multifaceted artistry—made possible by the collaborative energy of the Iowa City arts scene.

Part of Iowa City Book Festival. Note: the Iowa City Book Festival event will be free and open to the public.

“Guitarist Marc Ribot helped Tom Waits refine a new, weird Americana on 1985's Rain Dogs, and since then he's become the go-to guitar guy for all kinds of roots-music adventurers: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp.” —Rolling Stone
