Patti Smith and Her Band
Part of Hancher's Infinite Dream festival
A dream engagement with one of the most influential artists of our time.
Put simply, Patti Smith changed ... everything. She stoked the spirit of punk music, pulling out soul and guts and complexity and landscape and language. Propelled to fame with the release of her 1975 debut album, Horses, she’s been a commanding independent presence ever since. A riveting artist whether she is performing, recording, writing, painting, or drawing, Smith helped define the counterculture sensibility—and continues to embody it in ways few others can.
As part of Infinite Dream, Smith will read from her acclaimed poetry at The Englert Theatre (Friday, September 27) and perform with her band (Saturday, September 28) at Hancher Auditorium.
“Patti Smith is a performer who asks for no quarter. Her rakish authority has only been cemented by the passage of time since she started out, her uncompromising poetry accompanied by the lash of proto-punk early ’70s electric guitar.” — The Guardian
