Part of Hancher's 52nd Season

Part of the Steven Schick Residency

Presented in collaboration with Iowa Percussion at the University of Iowa School of Music

In celebration of Steven Schick’s residency at the institution, Iowa Percussion will present a gala concert. The performance will feature Edgard Varèse’s seminal work Ionisation, conducted by Schick, as well as a pair of virtuoso solo works long associated with Schick. To close the evening, Schick will conduct Mau Mau Suite, the best-known piece by his Iowa teacher and mentor Thomas L. Davis.

Iowa Percussion will lead off the program with the world premiere of a piece by alumnus Peter Naughton titled Eroica Transformation (a contemporary reimagining of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3) and follow with Dan Moore’s new arrangement of Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte.

PROGRAM:

Peter NAUGHTON: Eroica Transformation
Caroline SHAW / arr. Dan MOORE: Entr’acte
Thomas DAVIS: Mau Mau Suite
Karlheinz STOCKHAUSEN: Zyklus (Steven Schick solo)
Brian FERNEYHOUGH: Bone Alphabet (Steven Schick solo)
Edgard VARÈSE: Ionisation
