The Russian National Orchestra will be leading masterclasses with University of Iowa music students that are open to the public for observation.
 

Vladislav Lavrik, Principal Trumpet

Vladislav Lavrik, one of the most talented musicians of his generation, is Russia’s finest trumpeter and a rising young conductor.  Recognized for achievements in both classical and jazz performance styles, he was appointed principal trumpet of the Russian National Orchestra at the age of 20, the youngest person to hold a principal chair in the history of the orchestra.  Since 2008 Lavrik has been a member of the trumpet faculty of the Moscow State Conservatory.  In 2011 he was elected to the board of the International Trumpet Guild, the first Russian to be given this recognition and responsibility.  In 2016 he received the Russian Presidential Prize for Young Artists, the country’s highest honor for young artists. 
 

Dmitry Anakovsky, Tuba

Dmitry Anakovsky was born in 1978, in Moscow, and began studying music at the age of seven. Beginning in 1991, he began studying tuba at the State High School for Wind Arts, under R.B. Magalimov.

In 1996, Dmitry entered the Moscow Conservatory, studying under Yu.Ya. Larin and finished his graduate studies there in 2001.

From 1998 to 2001, Dmitry was a member of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra and from 2002-2005 worked in the Russian Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Alexander Vedernikov, often performing as a soloist.

Dmitry won first prize in the 2003 Tolyatti International Competition, and second prize in the 2006 Rimsky-Korsakov Competition in St. Petersburg. Dmitry joined the RNO in 2005.
