The University of Iowa will continue to make an annual allocation of $750,000 to Hancher Auditorium's facilities and maintenance costs.


Developing and presenting cutting-edge work across the performing arts has been a constant throughout the University of Iowa’s 175-year history.

The University of Iowa announced a new plan for its performing arts sector and Hancher Auditorium through the new Office of Performing Arts and Engagement, which will bring Hancher closer to university administration.

The University of Iowa Indian Student Alliance hosted Nachte Raho at Hancher Auditorium on March 5. The event is a Bollywood fusion dance competition among seven teams from around the country.

Damien Sneed, Valerie Simpson, and Karen Clark Sheard will visit Hancher this Friday with their musical performance designed to honor the Queen of Soul, who died in 2018. Hancher hosted Aretha Franklin back in 2004 in a sold-out performance.

At her presidential installation, University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson shared her goals for her presidency and the legacy that the university has. UI and state leadership shared their wishes and confidence for Wilson.

Wilson, the third woman to hold the university’s top position, will be ceremoniously installed at Hancher Auditorium at 1 p.m. on Feb. 25.

The installation ceremony for the University of Iowa’s 22nd president, Barbara Wilson, will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Hancher Auditorium.

Through the University of Iowa’s String Quartet Residency Program, the Castalian String Quartet will perform at Hancher.

The esteemed Mark Morris Dance Group hasn’t been to Iowa City in 25 years, and Chuck Swanson, Hancher’s Executive Director, is excited for their return.
