Creative Matters: Lawrence Brownlee & Eric Owens

Tenor Lawrence Brownlee and Bass-baritone Eric Owens will be joined on stage for a conversation with Brandon Alexander Williams, a Grant Wood Fellow, poet, MC, and DJ.

Named 2017 “Male Singer of the Year” by both the International Opera Awards and Bachtrack, Lawrence Brownlee has been hailed by the Associated Press as one of “the world’s leading bel canto tenors.” Brownlee also serves as Artistic Advisor at Opera Philadelphia, helping the company to expand their repertoire, diversity efforts and community initiatives.

Docunight Screening - "MAHAK: A World She Founded”

Persian Students Organization, in partnership with Hancher Auditorium, is happy to bring Docunight to Iowa. Docunight, now part of Kiarostami Foundation, is a grass-roots initiative started more than four years ago in San Francisco to have monthly screenings of documentaries about Iran. Docunight has screening in more than 20 cities in North America, and now we are happy to bring these documentaries to Iowa.

In collaboration with the Center For Worker Justice, join Rahim AlHaj for an evening of fellowship and conversation about his life and work in advance of his Hancher performance.

Born in Baghdad, Rahim AlHaj is a master of the oud—a stringed instrument with a history dating back thousands of years. Music has been a constant in his life throughout his years as an Iraqi, a political refugee, and now an American citizen.
