Workshop with Amal Kassir
Workshop with Amal Kassir
The Voice of a 21st Century American: From the Individual to the World at Large
As part of our ongoing Embracing Complexity series Hancher—in collaboration with the Free Generative Writing Workshops and Public Space ONE—welcomes Amal Kassir who will be leading a community workshop at Public Space ONE. After the workshop Amal will be joining fellow artists Syed Umar Warsi and Amir Safi for an evening of spoken word poetry in Hancher’s Strauss Hall.
This workshop is built around the concepts of evolution, engagement, and empowerment in the American experience. It utilizes the individual experience to define social injustice and to recognize various issues and how to mitigate them through tangible means. Amal challenges the audience to engage our personal identities, spirituality, morality, and passions to be active in the social justice sphere using our own story to bridge the gaps between each other’s worlds.
The Free Generative Writing Workshop provides a space for career writers, curious beginners, writers of all income levels and stages of life. Their goal is to make it easy to meet and learn from some of the most talented writer/teachers living in or passing through Iowa City.
